Northern Kenya: TSF sets up Cash Transfer activities


Logologoend 550February 9th, 2012 - On 15th October 2012, Télécoms Sans Frontières, in collaboration with Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany, launched the RAPID M-PESA pilot project, financed by GIZ, whose objective is to improve food security of vulnerable households in pastoral areas of Kenya, and reduce the effects of famine on their living conditions. The objective for VSF-Germany is to conduct Cash For Work activities and thanks to TSF’s expertise, to remunerate the beneficiaries through the M-PESA system. TSF and VSF-G decided to conduct the pilot project in the Marsabit South District (Marsabit County, Northern Kenya). It will be implemented in three towns: Laisamis, Merille and Logologo. This is a five-month collaboration initiative; the TSF-VSF program will end in April 2012.


 

Earthquake in Turkey: TSF on the ground within 24 hours

November 4th, 2011- After the violent earthquake in eastern Turkey on October 23rd, a TSF team deployed in less than 24 hours and provided support to the Turkish emergency responders and the affected populations. The Turkish government didn’t ask for international assistance, but TSF was authorized to go to the affected areas and was the only international NGO deployed in the area.


   

El Salvador floods: TSF's support to local relief teams


Ahuachipan accueilNovember 4th, 2011- From 18th to 25th October 2011, a TSF team was deployed in El Salvador in response to the floods. The whole pacific coastal zone of the country has been affected by constant rains. The departments most impacted were Ahuachapán and Usulután. Our IT specialists assisted the Civil Protection teams and local authorities in the assessment of the affected areas and the coordination of emergency flood relief.


 

Thailand floods: TSF's regional base evacuated

October 24th, 2011- The worst flooding to hit Thailand for 50 years has now claimed more than 500 lives, as the waters continue to flow towards the capital. The TSF regional base located on the Asian Institute of Technology’s campus (AIT) was evacuated.
