Support for refugees and people displaced by the war
Since September 2024, clashes along the Lebanese-Israeli border had caused over 1,600 deaths and thousands of injuries, displacing 346,000 people within Lebanon. More than 100,000 Syrian refugees, out of the 1.5 million living in the country, returned to Syria. In total, around 1 million people were directly affected by the crisis, and numerous shelters were opened to host the displaced. Meanwhile, targeted strikes on Beirut continued on a daily basis.
After months of regional monitoring and engagement related to the crises in Gaza and the broader Middle East, a TSF team deployed to Beirut at the end of October 2024.
During the mission, TSF held a series of meetings with national and international NGOs, telecommunications operators, and government and United Nations agencies. The objective was to assess the connectivity and information access needs of both the displaced populations and the humanitarian organizations responding to the crisis.
